installing carpet pad::If you are up to the task, these are the steps you will need to follow to remove and install wall to wall carpeting.
Removing the base is unnecessary and can create a much larger project than you intended.
Carpet can be cut and stretched tight to base board that is not.
Install your base this high above the floor before the carpet is installed if you are installing carpet in a newly constructed addition or home.
This may require some effort at first, but once it is started the carpet will begin to pull up easier.
Be careful not to place your hands on the sharp carpet tack.
Roll the carpet up and remove it from the room.
The carpet pad will pull up easily, but the staples will hold small pieces of it to the floor.
Be sure to remove all of these pieces and pound in or pull out all staples.
Carry the carpet pad out of the room.
Be careful since the tack is sharp.
Discard of the tack in a safe place.
This is the time to fix any problems that you find.
Sweep the floor clean and make sure it is dry.
Step2: install tackless strips use small nails and a hammer to install a single row of tackless strips on the floor around the perimeter of the room about a half inch away from the base board.
Do not install carpet tack in doorways.
Step3: install carpet pad lay the pad down in strips that butt against one another but do not over lap.
Let these strips run just over the carpet tack.
Use a staple gun to fasten each strip in place throughout the entire field of the pad and not just the perimeter.
Use duct tape to seal the butt seams and a knife to trim the pad tight to the inside of the carpet tack.
Step 4: lay the carpet.
Choose a direction that has the fewest and shortest seams possible : use a chalk line to mark the desired length on the underside of the carpet and cut it with a knife or 5in1 carpet tool.
Grab the top half and carefully walk it over to the other side of the room so that your carpet is lying flat and even on the floor with about six inches of excess going up the walls.
Keep in mind that carpet is directional and be sure that the pile of each section of carpet is running in the same direction.
Cut the carpet in the corners with a knife so that the carpet can be creased between the floor and wall.
Make these cuts a little bit at a time to avoid cutting too much.
Fold the carpet so that there is a crease between the floor and wall, and cut along that crease with a knife.
Trim the edge of the carpet in door ways so that it will finish halfway under the door.
Step 6: secure the carpet.
Use a seam iron to join the two sections of carpet : use a knee kicker to attach the carpet to the tack.
A knee kicker is a steel bar with teeth on one side and a pad on the other.
